Rockets targeting Anthony after losing Mbah a Moute

Rockets Re-sign Chris Paul

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Houston Rockets are "determined" to sign Carmelo Anthony once he becomes free.

Wojnarowski reports that the Thunder could stretch Anthony's contract out within the next 7-10 days if a trade doesn't materialize.

The Rockets are hunting for a replacement for Trevor Ariza, who signed a one-year $15m deal with the Phoenix Suns during free agency, and hope Anthony could be the man to step in.

A league source confirmed the meeting.

As ESPN's Dave McMenamin noted, some of Houston's key figures-Mike D'Antoni (head coach), Chris Paul (point guard), Tilman Fertitta (owner), and John Lucas II (player development coach)-kicked it with Anthony's business manager at NBA Summer League Sunday. Anthony would have to approve the trade.

Clint Capela is a restricted free agent, but the expectation is that he will eventually reach a deal to keep him in Houston.

Green, a native of Houston, signed a 10-day contract with the Rockets on December 28 and ended up staying for the season.

Paul Pierce says Carmelo Anthony's best fit is with the Houston Rockets.

In his lone Thunder season, Melo averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Unfortunately for Anthony, that Big Three didn't work out; things just didn't really click between the three and the Thunder were eliminated in six games by the upstart Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs.

James's Los Angeles Lakers could also offer Anthony a possible way out of Oklahoma while remaining Banana Boat buddy Wade would also relish the chance to play alongside the former Denver Nugget in South Beach.
