Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle joins West Brom on loan

Muto-Rafa Benitez

But Benitez clearly feels more must be done, adding: "I am not happy we are looking to just survive every year".

The report suggests that Gayle will head in the other direction as part of the transfer, with the Newcastle attacker heading to the Hawthorns on a season-long loan deal.

Newcastle finished an impressive 10th on their return to the Premier League last season despite what Benitez saw as a lack of investment in the playing staff.

"I'm honoured to be a player for such a big club", said Muto, the first Japanese player to join Newcastle.

Most Newcastle supporters echo the concerns of the man who brought them back to the Premier League in his first full season in charge and kept the club in England's top flight the next year.

Venezuela worldwide Rondon becomes Benitez's sixth summer recruit, following on from the signings of Martin Dubravka, Kenedy, Yoshinori Muto, Fabian Schar and Ki Sung-yeung.

Newcastle are understood to have paid a £2million loan fee for Rondon.

"The manager attracted me", Gayle told West Brom's official website.

Joining the club before their relegation from the Premier League in 2016, it is widely suspected that Benitez's future at the club is in jeopardy if Ashley adheres to this stringent approach. The Venezuelan striker also keeps his place as the only player from his nation now in the Premier League. "He's really enthusiastic about my game and I'm buzzing to come down and I can't wait to get started".

Rookie manager Darren Moore saw his West Brom side lose their Championship opener this weekend.
