Rescuers in Lombok were said to be still pulling people out alive from the rubble, two days after the quake.

"Hopefully, now, with the arrival of heavy equipment, we can get her remains back", said Husni, another family member.

"I am in now in Bangsal port in North Lombok where tourists from the three Gilis are arriving".

Local authorities, worldwide NGOs and the central government have begun organising aid, but shattered roads have slowed efforts to reach survivors in the mountainous north and east of Lombok, which was hardest hit.

"We're forced to deal with broken bones in the traditional way at home because the hospital had to deal with hundreds of other injuries", said Budhiawan, the head of Lading-Lading village.

"We were sitting there having dinner at about 7 o'clock last night, we just felt a really big sort of shaking and the lights went off and everyone just ran", Australian tourist Kim Liebelt said as he waited with other travelers for a flight out at Lombok's worldwide airport.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is regularly hit by major temblors. In 2004, the Indian Ocean tsunami killed 226,000 people in 13 countries, including more than 120,000 in Indonesia.
