Trump touts record with minorities after Omarosa criticism, ahead of Charlottesville anniversary

Businesses say they'll refuse service to Unite the Right attendees in DC

While one of last year's Unite the Right organizers, Jason Kessler, was denied a permit to hold a second event this year in Charlottesvile, the Chicago Tribune reports that students and activists plan to hold a Rally for Justice on the University of Virginia campus Saturday.

As Washington, D.C. braced for a white nationalists to descend upon the capital Sunday, Former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe gave a grim recollection of violence perpetrated by the same group in Charlottesville just one year ago.

"We must come together as a nation", Trump wrote on Twitter from his golf club in New Jersey. This year, his official account tweeted a condemnation of "all types of racism and acts of violence".

Trump faced immediate backlash over his response to the white supremacist rally past year that left one counter protestor dead, saying that there was "blame" as well as "very fine people" on "both sides" of the rally.

"We all have a responsibility to stand up to hate", Bro said. Virginia state troopers H. Jay Cullen and Berke M.M. Bates also lost their lives when their helicopter crashed as they were monitoring the rally.

However, most sights will be set on Washington, DC, where white nationalists are once again planning a "Unite the Right" rally, which past year ended in tragedy in Charlottesville.

A park across the street from the White House is already filling up with people who oppose a white nationalist demonstration that is scheduled to take place later Sunday.

President Trump marked the first anniversary of deadly racial violence in Charlottesville, on Saturday with an appeal to peace and national unity.

Clashes at the rally resulted in at least 30 injuries and the death of Heather Heyer, after a vehicle driven by James Alex Fields Jr. plowed into a group of counter-protesters.

When the group arrived at Lafayette Park, another large crowd greeted them with boos, cries of "shame", and chants of "fascists go home" and "you are not welcome here".

The Spectrum News DC bureau will be covering the Unite the Right rally Sunday, as well as the counter-protests.

The vigil was one in a series of largely peaceful community events held in Charlottesville over the weekend to mark the one-year anniversary of the rally, one of the largest gatherings of white nationalists and other far-right extremists in a decade.

Mr Majuto said police "were not on our side" past year when white supremacists surrounded counter-protesters on the rotunda. Others in the crowd passed out "uproot white supremacy" and "no hoods in my woods" signs to those entering the square.

Congressman Tom Garrett, R. -Va., on Saturday said Russian Federation is to blame for some of the hate spewed from last year's rally. "They are afraid of us because we are demanding change from the university", Carlson said.

Outraged by the local response to the violence last August, Walker ran as an independent candidate for city council but ended up becoming the first African-American female mayor of Charlottesville, taking office less than five months after the rally of white nationalists gripped her community.
